MilitaryThe Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) is the official title for the army of Liberia. For most of its existence, it has had the help of the United States to help train the army. The AFL has had little action until the civil war in 1989 to 1997 and the second civil war from 1999 to 2003. After the second civil war, the AFL was demobilized and is currently being reassembled. Men enter the army by volunteer.

The AFL has only two army battalions. Liberia also had a very small air force what was dissolved during the civil war.
GovernmentThe government is set up very much like the United States government, but unlike the United States, doesn't have the two parties of Democratic and Republican. They have all of the branches of government, executive, judicial and legislative. They have a house of representatives and a senate, as well as a supreme court, so the government is fairly stable. The current president is Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
